<p>Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and incumbent Member of Parliament for Walewale constituency in the North East Region, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu has lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries to Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru , a technical adviser to the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia</p>
<p>At the end of a keenly contested successful parliamentary primaries held on Saturday January 27, 2024 at the Walewale Senior High and Technical School, Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru emerged victorious with 345 votes out of a total of 842 votes cast. Beating the incumbent Member of Parliament Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection who polled 338.</p>
<p>The other two contestants included Sham-An Tahiru, a businessman who polled 145 with Jangdo Mahama who polled only 1 vote. No rejected ballot but 13 spoilt ballots were recorded.</p>
<p>The Certified results were declared by the Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Adams Abdul-Rauf who described the electoral process as free and fair.</p>

<p><strong>The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday went to the polls to elect parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general election in constituencies where the party has no members of parliament (MP), also referred to as orphan constituencies.</strong></p>
<p>In the upper East region the elections took place in 10 constituencies across the region with a total of 27 aspirants vying for the single slot in the constituencies where the elections were held.</p>
<p>The delegates for the elections were constituency executives, polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, Council of Elders, Council of patrons, and  founder members [if any]</p>
<p>The constituencies were Tempane, Builsa South, Talensi, Bolgatanga Central, Navrongo Central, Zebilla, Chiana-Paga, Nabdam, Guru and Bongo.</p>

<p>The New Patriotic Party organized it&#8217;s parliamentary primaries in Navrongo central constituency for the five formidable contenders to elect one of them to lead the party in 2024 general elections as their parliamentary candidate.</p>
<p>At the end of the voting, the kasena Nankana municipal Director of EC, Mr Tetteh Okine announced the results as follows:Hon. Joseph Adongo who is the current municipal Chief executive and a number one on the ballot paper securing 238 votes, Alhaji Abdalah Otito Achuliwor who is the brother of the late former MP for Navrongo central, honourable John Setuni Achuliwor, having 375 votes.</p>
<p>Dr Raymond Kwojori Ayilu, the protege of the late former MP for Navrongo central constituency, honourable Joseph Kofi Adda gotten 49 votes, Mr Perry Adangba, 8 votes and Mr Abasang Gregory who still tried his luck again securing 3 votes.</p>
<p>By these results the returning officer declared Alhaji Abdalah Otito Achuliwor the NPP&#8217;s parliamentary candate elect for the Navrongo central constituency. All the contenders were given the opportunity by the party to address the party people and all the four unsuccessful candidates said ,it&#8217;s NPP party that has won and pledged that the will give their maximum support to him.</p>
<p>Alhaji Abdalah Otito Achuliwor who was very joyous and at the same time could not hold back his tears because of his number of unsuccessful bids to lead the party as parliamentary candidate for the Navrongo central constituency, was very thankful to Allah and all the delegates for the opportunity given him this time round saying maybe it&#8217;s for a purpose . He called all the rank and file of the NPP supporters to come together to work hard and snatch the seat from NDC back to NPP party come December 7th 2024 general elections.</p>
<p>The elections that took place at Balobia JHS was generally peaceful and the lucky delegates would also enjoy happy Christmas this year .</p>
