<p>Mr. Wegwi Batasia Raymond, popularly known as Ray, the Head of the Kasem Department of GBC URA Radio, Bolgatanga, and the Upper East Regional Treasurer of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has been laid to rest at his hometown, Pungu-Yangua, in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region on Saturday July 11, 2026.</p>

<p>The burial service was officiated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where family, friends, colleagues, journalists, traditional leaders, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects.</p>

<p>During the funeral service, moving tributes were delivered by GBC URA Radio, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his wives and children, and the bereaved family, all highlighting Mr. Raymond&#8217;s dedication, humility, professionalism, and invaluable contributions to broadcasting, journalism, and the promotion of the Kasem language.</p>

<p><strong>Biography</strong><br />
Mr. Batasia Raymond Wegwi was born on 27th August 1977 in Navrongo to Mr. Tapanga Wegwi and Mrs. Abeama Wegwi. He grew up with four siblings of whom three are still alive today</p>
<p>He began his basic education at Pungu Junior High School before continuing to Awe Senior High/Technical School. He furthered his education at the University of Education, Winneba, where he acquired the knowledge and skills that prepared him for his professional career</p>
<p>Raymond started his working life as a teacher at Azoribisi Primary School, where he dedicated himself to nurturing young minds. In November 2003, he joined the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), where he built an outstanding career in broadcasting.</p>
<p>Through years of dedicated service, he became a respected broadcaster, serving as Head of the Kasem Department at GBC URA Radio, Bolgatanga, and also as the Upper East Regional Treasurer of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).</p>
<p>He was admired for his professionalism, commitment to public service, and passion for promoting development through broadcasting.</p>
<p>His contributions to journalism and community development earned him the respect of colleagues, listeners, and the wider public.</p>
<p>Mr. Batasia Raymond Wegwi was married to Mrs. Ama Wegwi and Mrs. Vida Wegwi. He was blessed with five children, of whom four are alive.</p>
<p>Throughout his life, Raymond remained a devoted family man, educator, broadcaster, and community servant. His legacy of dedication, humility, and service will continue to inspire generations. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched</p>
<p>Mr. Raymond will be remembered for his dedication to broadcasting, his commitment to promoting the Kasem language, and his invaluable service to journalism and media development in the Upper East Region. May his soul rest in perfect peace.</p>
<p>May the Almighty grant him eternal rest and comfort his family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn his passing.</p>
<p>Rest well, Ray. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten</p>
